Bosch DLR165K Digital Laser Rangefinder Review
The Bosch DLR165K Laser Rangefinder is a significant improvement over other rangefinders using cheaper and less precise sonar technology. Laser rangefinders are extremely accurate over long distances, and the DLR165K is no exception. Bosch even claims that the DLR165K Laser is accurate to 1/16? from distances of 2 inches all the way up to 165 feet!
The Bosch DLR165K is also incredibly intuitive and easy to use. To measure distances, you simply point the laser at something, press the large red button, and the distance measurement is displayed instantly on the LCD display. If you want to take measurements in decimal feet or metric values, just press a button to switch to your preferred unit of measure.
The DLR165K also has the ability to easily compute cubic footage or square footage. The LCD display will clearly indicate the exact measurements (length, width, or height) that you need to take to calculate the cubic or square footage of an area.
Another great feature of the DLR165K is its continual measurement mode. So for example, say you would like to know how far 100 feet is from an object. Simply turn the continual measurement mode on the Bosch DLR165K on, and walk away. The LCD display will continuously update with your current distance from the object. This makes it incredibly easy to determine how far 100 feet is without having to keep stopping and measuring.
Weighing just over 6 ounces and standing only 4 inches tall, the Bosch DLR165K rangefinder is quite compact. The lower half of the body is rubberized, which makes it easier to grip and harder to drop. The buttons are large and easy to push, as well as sealed which protects the internal components from moisture and dust. The laser on the DLR165K is clearly visible even from a considerable distance. View enhancing goggles and a reflective laser target are available as accessories for extraordinarily bright environments.
The DLR165K rangefinder would be an invaluable tool for remodelers, contractors, appraisers, real estate agents, or anyone needing to quickly and precisely measure distances. For less than $150, you can easily take the measurements you need without having to deal with a cumbersome measuring tape. Included with this Bosch rangefinder is a soft carrying case and 4 AAA batteries, which according to Bosch should get you close to 30,000 measurements.
Let’s take a look at all of the Bosch DLR165K features/specification:

- Pocket-Sized Only 4-Inch tall
- Four Measuring Reference Points: Back, front, swingout extension pin for measuring from inside corners or channels, or center of optional tripod

Let me show you what current owners have to say about it:
“…I do trim carpentry and build cabinets and needed something to give me fast accurate measurements for doing crown moldings and the Bosch delivered. It comes with a handy case that you can hang on your belt keeping it in reach. I use it for any measurement that would require me to bend the tape and try to guess what the reading would be or where the distance makes it difficult to accurately do with tape measure. It also has the ability to do continuous reading allowing you to aim at an object and move yourself forward or backward until you are the desired distance from the target object.
A steady hand does help but the uses are endless due to its ability to read off its front edge, a tripod mount hole, off its back edge, or its extendable rod. It would be a good idea to make sure the tape measure you use for transferring the measurements matches the rangefinder before starting a job. The only negative I have discovered is that a measurement in feet and fractions of an inch are stored in memory and then redisplayed in decimal forcing me to then convert the number back into fractions. That said the display holds my measurement long enough for me to get my molding, measure, and make the cut before the display shuts off. I have recommended this device to all my friends who do a lot of measurements on their job…”
If you want more info on this Bosch DLR165K, I suggest you take a look at the Bosch DLR165K reviews on Amazon here. A lot of consumer positive response to this Bosch DLR165K here.
Here is why Bosch DLR165K is worth buying:
Bosch DLR165K Digital Laser Rangefinder : Pro
- Fast and accurate, small size, reasonable price, measurement flexibility, range
Bosch DLR165K Digital Laser Rangefinder : Con
- limited calculations, technology limitations, no laser target included
Conclusion
The Bosch fell short for us by not being able to display distance in inches. It does display length in mm & feet. Even though it is easy to convert feet into inches, it sure would of beed helpful in our business to be able to read distance in inches. The Stanley 77-910 TLM100 FatMax Tru-Laser 1/4-Inch at 100 Feet Laser Measurer works very well for us even if it is on the larger side.
The on-off button of the FatMAx has a tendency to turn on as you put it into its case which was the only reason we were looking for a different and more compact device. Over all the accuracy was very good with both devices.
